SKILLED NURSING

When you need assistance from a professional to manage, observe, and evaluate your care, rely on Maxicare and our Skilled Nursing services. We provide assistance in helping you improve conditions, and avoid a current condition from getting worse.  Skilled Nursing helps you feel better, function more independently, and learn to take care of your health needs.

Skilled Nursing -- Provided by a Registered Professional Nurse in your or your loved one’s home when prescribed by a physician. May include but is not limited to:

  • Initial assessment and evaluations
  • Pre- and post-operative care
  • Skilled nursing assessment with obtaining and monitoring vitals
  • Catheter care / change
  • Diabetic care
  • Infusion therapies
  • Lab draws / injections / IV therapies
  • Wound care / dressing change
  • Wound vac competent care
  • Tube feeding, G-tube care and teaching
  • Orthopedics
  • Pulmonary care
  • Medication management and administration
  • Central line and port maintenance
  • Other services as needed


Certified Home Health – Part-time, medically necessary skilled care (nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language therapy) that is ordered by a physician. If individuals are eligible for skilled services, they can also receive part-time assistance with personal care needs from a home health aide. You or your loved one are required to be “homebound” as a condition of eligibility for these services. Home health is covered under the Part A Medicare benefit.

Licensed Therapies - Many Maxicare branches offer a comprehensive range of quality clinical services.
  • Physical Therapy - Services are focused on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of movement dysfunction as well as enhancement of physical health and functional abilities. Plans of care may include:
    • Mobility training to develop functional and safe mobility skills
    • Therapeutic exercise to increase strength, range of motion and endurance
    • Balance facilitation to address safety and fall prevention
    • Modalities to address pain management
    • Home exercise programs and home safety evaluations
  • Occupational Therapy - Helps develop skills needed for you or your loved one to remain in at home and in the community with the ability to engage in everyday activities. Plans of care may include:
    • Activities of daily living training (eating, grooming, dressing, etc.)
    • Management of personal or household affairs
    • Therapeutic activities to increase range of motion, coordination and endurance
    • Sensory integration
    • Facilitation of oral motor skills
  • Speech – Language Pathology - Provides treatment to enable you or your loved one to communicate effectively and to improve oral motor skills to ensure safe swallowing. Plans of care may include:
    • Communication – Auditory comprehension, expression, writing/reading skills and speech intelligibility
    • Cognition – Memory and executive functioning
    • Swallowing – Diagnosis and treatment of swallowing problems and diet progression
  • Medical Social Services - Social services including but not limited to:
    • Psychosocial support strategies and techniques for independent living
    • Family counseling
    • Community contact, education and resource information
